What is Reiki?Reiki is a holistic healing technique that originated in Japan. It involves the transfer of universal energy from the practitioner's palms to the patient, enhancing the body's natural ability to heal itself physically, emotionally, and spiritually. It's often described as a gentle, non-invasive form of therapy that promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and supports overall well-being.
-
How does Reiki work?Reiki is based on the concept that a universal energy flows through the practitioner to the recipient, promoting emotional and/or physical healing. The practitioner's hands are placed on or near the recipient's body, allowing the energy to flow to areas where it's most needed, helping to restore balance and promote wellness.
-
What are the benefits of Reiki? The benefits of Reiki may include stress reduction, relaxation, improved emotional well-being, enhanced spiritual connection, and potentially aiding in the body's natural healing processes. Many individuals also report increased energy levels and a greater sense of overall balance and peace.
-
Is Reiki a religious practice?Reiki is not tied to any specific religious belief or practice. It's considered a spiritual healing practice that can be integrated with various belief systems or followed independently of any religious affiliation.
-
Can anyone learn Reiki?Yes, anyone can learn Reiki. It doesn't require any specific background or belief system. Training and attunement by a Reiki master enable individuals to access and channel Reiki energy for self-healing or to help others.
-
What can I expect during a Reiki session?During a Reiki session, you can expect to lie down or sit comfortably while remaining fully clothed. The practitioner will place their hands lightly on or over specific areas of the body, focusing on facilitating the flow of Reiki energy. This often induces a deep sense of relaxation and may include sensations of warmth, gentle tingling, flow of emotions, or a feeling of peacefulness. You will also receive messages from your Guardian Angels or Spirit Guides.

Are there any scientific studies supporting Reiki's effectiveness?Over the past two decades, a number of studies have shown that Reiki treatments help diminish the negative side effects of chemotherapy, improve surgical outcomes, regulate the autonomic nervous system, and dramatically alter people’s experience of physical and emotional pain associated with illness. But no conclusive, peer-reviewed study has explained its mechanisms, much less confirmed the existence of a healing energy that passes between bodies on command. Nevertheless, Reiki treatment, training, and education are now available at many esteemed hospitals in the United States, including Memorial Sloan Kettering, Cleveland Clinic, New York Presbyterian, the Yale Cancer Center, the Mayo Clinic, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
-
How many Reiki sessions are typically needed to feel the effects? It's best to receive two to five Reiki treatments one to two weeks apart. Once you see yourself improving you can space out treatments to one month or six weeks apart. Receiving regular Reiki treatments is excellent self-care and helps you to maintain holistic balance.
-
Can Reiki be done remotely?Reiki's universal energy flows the same whether in-person or at a distance, so time and space aren't a factor. The most important factor is for the person to be open to receiving the energy. If they're not, the Reiki simply won't work in the same way.
-
Is Reiki a replacement for medical treatment?Reiki is not a replacement for medical treatment. It is often considered a complementary practice, meant to work alongside conventional medical care to support overall wellness. It's essential to consult with a healthcare professional for any medical concerns and to follow their advice regarding treatment options.
